    Spring Commissioning Checklist FAQs

The PDF covers pre-launch planning, hull and deck checks, engines, batteries and electrical systems, plumbing, safety equipment and navigation systems. It also includes a printable checklist, a launch and sea-trial log, and space to record observations and follow-up work.

Start well before your planned launch or first trip so you have time to inspect the boat, order parts and arrange any servicing. Review your winterization records and manufacturer instructions first. Some checks need to be completed ashore, while others take place after launch or during a controlled sea trial.

It provides a general framework for common systems found on yachts. Use the sections that apply to your vessel and add any checks required by its equipment, manufacturer guidance and operating arrangements. Boats with specialist systems or sailing rigs will need additional checks.

Owners and crew with suitable experience can complete many routine inspections and record-keeping tasks. Arrange qualified help for work beyond your competence, especially where it involves fuel, gas, shore-power electrics, structural defects or other safety-critical systems. Completing the checklist does not certify a vessel as seaworthy.
